The Players Theater has announced a 3-week extension of New York premiere of David Barth's Hard Right. Originally scheduled to end April 1, the limited off-Broadway engagement will now run through April 22.
Described as a "darkly comic and shockingly violent drama," the show is written and directed by Barth. "In
Hard Right, an average slacker college student brings his girlfriend home to meet the parents, but the normalcy of everyday life is shattered when a dubious college "counselor" shows up at the door. Innocent questions quickly turn into suspicion, recrimination, threats, and even violence. In an age of terror, who can you trust?," state press notes.
The ensemble cast includes Susan Engbrecht, Dylan Price, Stacy Shane, Jeremy Beck and Shayne Dukevitch.
Barth has ten produced original plays to his credit including
A Dance Along the Precipice, The Last Frontier, Unt Gretel, Spook's Lament and
The Heel. Some of his awards include a Bernie Award from The San Francisco Chronicle, a Goldie Award from the San Francisco Bay Guardian and a Gerbode Foundation Grant. His play
The Heel was developed into a screenplay for
Jerry Garcia. In 2005, he was selected as an Edward F. Albee Foundation Fellow.
The show's performance schedule is Wednesday through Saturday at 8pm. The Players Theatre is located at 115 MacDougal Street (between Bleecker & West 3rd St. -- accessible from the A,B,C,D,E,F&V trains at West 4th Street.).
