Octavarius, a Chicago comedy company, takes the stage on Sunday, June 10 at 7 p.m., at The ComedySportz Theatre (929 W. Belmont Ave.) for opening night of an open-ended run-the first at the theatre for an independent company.

Octavarius is the fastest growing independent comedy show in Chicago, with a new and unique way to present sketches, improv and comedy music. After completing a 35-week run at The ComedySportz Theatre, one of the longest running independent improv shows at the theatre, Octavarius is back this summer with no planned end date. The group utilizes special themes as inspiration each Sunday. During the 90-minute show, Octavarius performs scripted comedy based on the night's theme; frequent special guests like dancers, magicians, robots and wrestlers; and a non-stop and entirely improvised set, titled "The Nefarious," crafted from one audience suggestion. The show often includes live music and is always followed by an after party for guests to meet and mingle with the performers.

Themes from past shows include "Stars! Wars! The Musical," "Octa-palooza," "The Trial of the O'Leary Cow," "Super Heroes," "A Titanic of a Heartbreak: The Unsinkable Valentine's Day Show," and "How Hans Gruber Stole Christmas: A Die Hard Holiday Spectacular."

"We're very excited to give Octavarius an open run as part of our 25th anniversary season," says Matt Elwell, President and CEO of ComedySportz Chicago. "They don't just perform a show, they provide a full experience, and our customers love that!"

The Monday before each show, Octavarius hosts a live interactive podcast, exploring the week's theme. Throughout the week, the group crafts content on Octavarius.com inspired by the theme. They also create videos, music and more! Each Sunday, the group dresses to the theme for their show. Tickets are $10, but audience members who dress for the theme receive tickets at a discounted rate of $7.

Octavarius, a Chicago comedy company, began its mission in 2009 to find fun everywhere its tentacles can reach. They continue to share that fun with the world through live comedy shows, blog posts, videos, interactive weekly podcasts and music. In some combination, the comedians have been performing together since 2003. As Octavarius, they have played all over Chicago, including runs at The ComedySportz Theatre and headlining closing night of the 2011 Chicago Improv Festival. The group also traveled to LA to perform at the 2011 LA Improv Comedy Festival. Octavarius won Chicago Reader's 2011 Readers' Poll for "Best Sketch/Improv Troupe."
