Northwestern University's Dolphin Show, the largest student-produced musical in the country, is pleased to announce Carousel as its 66th annual production. This year's Dolphin Show will be directed by School of Communication rising senior, Tyler Beattie and will open on January 25, 2008 in Cahn Auditorium.

"Carousel is one of the all-time great musicals, and the Dolphin Show is so thrilled to have the opportunity to stage it. With the Dolphin Show going into its 66th year, this Rodgers and Hammerstein classic will help us continue our mission to bring important and influential theatre to Northwestern University," said Artistic Producer Deanna Hope.

"Directing the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Carousel is a lifelong dream. The 1945 musical is beautiful and heartbreaking, with some of the best music ever written for the stage and a dark, moving story that transcends generations. I can't wait to team up with the most brilliant of Northwestern's artistic community to breath new life into this amazing piece," said Beattie.

A dramatic testimony to the power of love, Carousel is "the story of a man who makes all the wrong choices and with jail imminently on the horizon, chooses to take his own life. Fifteen years later, Billy is given the chance to return to earth for one day where he encounters the teenage daughter he never knew. With magical storytelling and one of Rodgers and Hammerstein's most beautiful and memorable scores, Carousel is an eloquent and viscerally exciting musical that is sure to spark the imagination and mesmerize audiences of all ages," state press notes.

"Now in its 66th year, The Dolphin Show is the nation's largest student produced musical. Not to be confused with a certain aquatic mammal, The Dolphin Show is another beast entirely. Boasting Broadway production values, a team of hundreds of passionate students from diverse backgrounds and an incalculable number of man-hours, The Dolphin Show is truly epic in scale. From its humble roots in a swimming pool in 1940 as a fundraiser for the Dolphin Club, to its now 66th incarnation in Cahn Auditorium where it has lived for the past 37 years, The Dolphin Show has been a Northwestern University tradition enjoyed by thousands."

On top of being a dazzling production, The Dolphin Show is also dedicated to engaging the greater Chicagoland community though extensive philanthropy, outreach programming and community-focused events. Dolphin's Educational Outreach program allows hundreds of underprivileged students to see the show for free, our Senior Matinee and Reception connects community members to Northwestern students, and our partnership with OASIS—a student-volunteerism organization on campus—has given Dolphin new ways to reach out.
