The 2007 Nightlife Award winners, voted by nearly 30 critics and judges covering cabaret, comedy and jazz, have been announced today.
For the first time, the husband and wife team of John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey have won, respectively, the male and female Cabaret Major Engagement awards for their individual acts. Pizzarelli won for his show at Feinstein's at the Regency, while Molaskey took home the honors for her solo show at the Algonquin's Oak Room.
This year's awards, which takes place on Monday, January 29th at 7 PM at The Town Hall, also acknowledge Jim Caruso's Broadway at Birdland series and the new Metropolitan Room - two venues that allow Broadway stars to perform in a cabaret setting.
A star for more than thirty years, this year's Nightlife Awards honors Maureen McGovern with a Nightlife Legend Award.
"The Nightlife Awards offers a unique approach to celebrating its winners. Instead of making boring acceptance speeches, they perform! It's the only 'All-Performance' award show in the world. Every year, the winners come to Town Hall to show why they were chosen. Last year, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Elaine Stritch, Eartha Kitt and more than a dozen other stars performed on the stage of Town Hall. And this year...," state press materials.
While the winners have just been chosen and are in the process of being reached, the show's producer, Scott Siegel, reports that he has already received confirmation that Christine Ebersole and Billy Stritch will perform, as will Maureen McGovern, John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey. So, too will Paula West, Scott Coulter, Tom Andersen, Tim Di Pasqua, Lisa Asher, and David Colbert. Among guest stars, it's reported that Judy Gold and Tom Wopat will perform, as well. To find out who will be performing, go to www.SiegelPresents.com for regular updates of winners who will be performing and guest stars who are coming to either perform or present the winners to the audience.
Tickets to the 2007 Nightlife Awards which are priced at $75, $50 and $25 are available at the Town Hall Box Office (123 West 43rd Street) from noon to 6 PM every day but Sunday. Tickets are also available at Ticketmaster.com or by calling TicketMaster at 212-307-4100. For more information go to SiegelPresents.com
