FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Nicole Henry in Set for the Season, a warm and spirited collection of songs to celebrate December - a month set aside for gifting, family, joy, memories, and spiritual reflections. Ms. Henry recorded the first iteration of this "set" in Tokyo, 2010 for a live CD - and now after a handful of additions and subtractions to the setlist, she debuts it in NYC. No stranger to Feinstein's, this marks Nicole Henry's seventh solo appearance at this NYC institution (including the original on Park Avenue), coupled with a number of national concert collaborations with its namesake, Michael Feinstein.
Set for the Season features personalized arrangements of holiday standards, obscure holiday tunes, and new holiday music - including from songwriter William Schermerhorn. The arrangement on "I'll Be Home for Christmas" draws on the song's haunting, inherent heart-break, while "Angels We Have Heard on High" rejoices with hints of gospel. One won't forget Henry's jazz/soul background with the up-tempo swing and surprise of "We Need a Little Christmas" nor with her R&B-influenced rendition of Stevie Wonder's hopeful "Someday at Christmas." Henry will be joined on piano by Joe Davidian, bass with Rene Hart and drums, Henry Conerway.
Now a regular in the New York City jazz and cabaret scene at such venues as Jazz at Lincoln Center and Joe's Pub, Ms. Henry made her debut in the City in 2009 soon earning a 2010 Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Jazz Vocalist Award. She has toured in more than 20 countries; earned a Billboard Top 10 Jazz album; won a Soul Train Award for 'Best Traditional Jazz Performance,' a "Best New Jazz Artist" and "Best Vocal Jazz Album' award by HMV Japan, and 'Best Solo Musician' by Miami New Times among others.
Nicole Henry's Set for the Season will debut at Feinstein's/54 Below, 254 West 54th Street, on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 9:30PM. There is a $35-$80 cover charge and $25 food and beverage minimum. Tickets and information are available at www.54Below.com. Tickets on the day of performance after 4:00 are only available by calling (646) 476-3551.
