Newnan Theatre Company's improv troupe, the N.I.T.W.I.T.S., will present their final show of the season at 8:00 pm tonight, June 22. Experienced improv artist Drew Turner is putting together their favorite games from the spring season for one last romp before summer.
Last night, June 21, the newest crop of Half-W.I.T.S. staged their very first show. This group of fifteen talented middle school youngsters has been learning the rules of improv since February 2. They will be practicing these rules and playing some of the games they've been using with their instructors Justin Jessell, Robbie Kirkland, Melanie Carrin, Drew Turner, Daniel Lees and Beth Lyons.
"We show them how we play a game, and then they try it," said Kirkland. "They're coming along great. I've heard some of them say they've taken classes in other places, and they've learned much more here because it's hands-on - they see the rules of improv actually being practiced by the N.I.T.W.I.T.S., who perform on the same night as the Half-W.I.T.S. class."
The ticket price is $5.00 for the Half-W.I.T.S. as well as for the N.I.T.W.I.T.S. show.
The N.I.T.W.I.T.S. are expanding their horizons beyond Newnan. On April 30 they were invited to perform some of their best games at Whole World Improv in Atlanta, along with Whole World's beginner group Unusual Suspects. "It was a very fun experience to go up there in Atlanta," said N.I.T.W.I.T.S. Director Robbie Kirkland. "We've been invited back for their 8:00 pm show on July 23."
Whole World Improv Theatre is a non-profit organization founded in 1994. Located at 1216 Spring St NW in Atlanta, they have more than 40 company members that perform, crew shows, and teach classes.
