NewFilmmakers welcomes the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as part of our continuing Film School Screening Series.

The NewFilmmakers NY Series screens at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at 32 Second Avenue & 2nd Street.

Admission is $6 for the whole evening and tickets are available at the Anthology Box Office the night of screening.

6:00PM NEWFILMMAKERS DOCUMENTARY SERIES

Aaron Lehmann ABODE OF THE SERPENT (2009, 50 Minutes, Video)
A documentation of the tribes inhabiting the Dang Forest in Gujarat, India. A people undergoing drastic change due to an economic boom, globalization and tourism. An examination of the effects of these transitions on the indigenous cultures and local environment within the Dang region.

7:00PM NEWFILMMAKERS FILM SCHOOL SCREENING SERIES

NEW FILMMAKERS FILM SCHOOL SCREENING SERIES presents an hour and a half program of short films from University of North Carolina, School of the Arts, School of Filmmaking students. These films were made in conjunction with the class The Image and Internal Time-Space continuum, taught by Julian Semilian and John LeBlanc. This class is an exploration of the moving image wrenched free of quotidian isolation. The students explore the expression of communication between external stimulus and internal response in series of visual and aural exercises designed to lead to the deeper awareness of how we shape and are shaped by images, engaging the student to enter the poetic timeline and create short works of artistic integrity.

Marta Mondelli THE CONTENDERS (2009, 74 Minutes, Video)
On a winter night, Ken and Nora host a birthday party in their house by the beach. But why does the guest of honor suddenly die? The remaining friends spend the night discussing sex, death and the secret of happiness till dawn, waiting for an answer.
