THE MIST, a documentary about modern Iran, is screening Wednesday, July 1 at 7:45pm as part of the NewFilmmakers Summer Festival at the Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Avenue, NY 10003.
Iran today is alive with youthful energy. With over seventy percent of the population under 40, a new culture of art and ideas has taken root side by side with fundamentalist traditions. Through a series of interviews with painters, poets, intellectuals, and students, Iranian-born filmmaker Maryam Habibian uncovers a reality very different from the monolithic imagery that so dominates the Western media.
THE MIST is an eloquent call for understanding between societies and people that, for all their differences, have more in common than politics might lead us to believe.
New Filmmakers gives independent filmmakers the chance to show their work to the public and gives New York audiences the opportunity to see outstanding new films.
