New York's IDNYC Adds New Free Performing Arts/Museum Memberships For 2016

IDNYC, the free photo ID available to all New York City residents that was introduced in 2015, has announced an expansion of its incentives for 2016, including free one-year memberships available to more of the city's cultural institutions.

Added to the list for the new year are The Guggenheim Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, The New Museum, The Metropolitan Opera, The Museum of Chinese in America, BRIC Arts | Media and Pregones Theater.

Residents can visit nyc.gov/idnyc to make an appointment to fill out an application and have a photo taken. Once they receive their card in the mail they are entitled to free one-year memberships by visiting each venue individually and filling out their applications.

These new museums and theatres join those that offered free memberships beginning in 2015 and will continue to do so in the new year. They include The American Museum of Natural History, The Bronx County Historical Society, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, The Brooklyn Children's Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, Carnegie Hall, The New York City Ballet, El Museo del Barrio, Flushing Town Hall, The Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Jewish Heritage, The Museum of the City of New York, The Museum of the Moving Image, New York Botanical Garden, City Center, The New York Hall of Science, MoMA P.S. 1, The Public Theater, Queens Botanical Garden, The Queens Museum, Queens Theatre in the Park, Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, Staten Island Children's Museum, Staten Island Historical Society, Staten Island Museum, Staten Island Zoo, Studio Museum in Harlem, Wave Hill, The Wildlife Conservation Society at the Bronx Zoo, The Alliance of Resident Theatres / New York, The New York Football Club, New York Pass, The New York Theatre Ballet, The Roundabout Theatre Company, Big Apple RX, Food Bazaar, NYC Parks Department and The YMCA.

Over 670,000 New Yorkers applied for IDNYC in 2015. The program also includes access to New York City's public libraries, banks and credit unions plus discounts on prescription drugs and fitness club memberships.
