On Saturday, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Council Member Brad Lander, Olympic Regional Development Authority President & CEO Ted Blazer and Parks mascot Pearl the Squirrel kicked off a celebration of FREE winter sports and fun in Prospect Park!

"With all the recent snow, Winter Jam NYC is a great way for New Yorkers to enjoy winter in the parks in different ways beyond sledding and snowman building," said Commissioner Benepe. "Thanks to our partners at the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA), the Prospect Park Alliance, Red Bull and our many sponsors, people of all ages could try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and skiing in the heart of Brooklyn."

Winter Jam NYC brings the ski slopes to the city with a Lake Placid Snow Field for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. All equipment is provided, but participants were welcome to bring their own sleds, skis and snowboards!

New Yorkers checked out acrobatics from the high flying Skyriders and performances by Sister Sparrow and BR & Time Bomb. Participants warmed up with free samples from local producers at the Pride of New York Winter Market and got green New York State travel tips from I LOVE NEW YORK's Greenest NYer Kaity Tsui.

Red Bull hosted the Butter Cup, a national contest series, where professional and amateur snowboarders can show off their best tricks on multi-featured custom ramps, pads and rails. Winners took home the Butter Cup Trophy and an arm full of new gear.

Winter Jam NYC is presented by the Prospect Park Alliance, Lake Placid and I LOVE NY and sponsored by Red Bull, Dunkin Donuts, Ski Areas of New York, Gore Mountain, Mountain Creek, Columbia apparel, Pride of New York, Cabot Cheese, Radio Q104.3, Mars Needs Moms©, REI, the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers, Flavorpill, and Ski Till I Die.
