New York Theatre Barn will host another free live stream of their New Works Series on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 7PM EDT, with pre-premieres of the new musicals Borders and Sueños: Our American Musical. Meet the writers of these new musicals, and get a glimpse of live excerpts from both shows.
Borders, the new musical with book, music and lyrics by Janine McGuire and Arri Lawton Simon, tells the story of two men, one Israeli and one Palestinian, who fall in love during the Second Intifada in the early 2000s. Based upon the motion picture The Bubble written by Eytan Fox and Gal Uchovsky, and directed by Eytan Fox, this daring new musical examines the borders we construct within society and within ourselves. Romantic and provocative, Borders pulses with energy, urgency, and hope for a more peaceful world. The writers will present two songs from the show performed live by Omer Shaish (VOCA PEOPLE) and co-writer Arri Lawton Simon.
With book, music and lyrics by Jesse Sanchez, Sueños: Our American Musical follows three generations of a Mexican-American family as they confront challenges, make sacrifices, break cycles, and celebrate community in their pursuit of the American Dream. Additional music and orchestrations are by Jeff Chambers. The writers will present two songs from the show performed live by Roberto Araujo, Jason Hurtado, Sandra Marante, and Amanda Robles (Barrington Stage's Into the Woods, Stages St. Louis' Man of La Mancha).
The 30-minute live stream presentation will begin at 7PM EDT on New York Theatre Barn's YouTube channel: NY Theatre Barn, and on the company's Facebook page. Both Borders and Sueños were presented previously in the series. Now in its 13th season, New York Theatre Barn's New Works Series presents exclusive pre-premieres of new musicals in the early stages of development. The New Works Series is produced by Jen Sandler, Sam Strum and Joe Barros. For more information, visit New York Theatre Barn's website: www.nytheatrebarn.org.
