New York Shakespeare Exchange, creator of the viral smash The Sonnet Project, is excited to announce the dates and artists for their 2014 ShakesBEER, NYC's Original Shakespearean Pub Crawl. Over the course of 2014, their new repertory ensemble of 18 actors will rotate through a total of 10 raucous Saturday afternoons spent enjoying Shakespeare and cocktails.

The first ShakesBEER of 2014 will kick off in March, with two "Stone Street" crawls scheduled for Saturday, March 1 and Saturday, March 8, kicking off at Bavaria House (19 South William Street, enter on Stone Street) in the Financial District. Additional bar crawls throughout the year are set for April 12, May 31, June 7, August 9 & 16, October 4 & 11, and December 6, with neighborhoods and bars to be announced. Admission is $45, which includes four drink tickets redeemable for beer, wine and select cocktails at any of the participating bars. Check-in begins at 2:30 PM for the 3 PM kick off. Tickets are available by calling Brown Paper Tickets at 1-800-838-3006, or booking online at www.shakespeareexchange.org/content/shakesbeer-2014.

This three-hour pub crawl features plenty of Bard to go with your beer (or wine or cocktails). The crawl is divided between four bars, with a Shakespeare scene breaking out at each location. The actors are shoulder-to-shoulder with the audience, drawing them in and making this experience about as "up-close and personal" as Shakespeare gets.

On March 1 and March 8, after kicking off at Bavaria House, ShakesBEER attendees crawl on to Ulysses (95 Pearl Street, enter on Stone), then move to The Dubliner (45 Stone Street), and wrap up at Route 66 BBQ and Bourbon (46 Stone Street).

This year, the NY Shakespeare Exchange has assembled its first ShakesBEERean acting company. The resident company features:

Brendan Averett (Julie Taymor's A Midsummer Night's Dream at TFANA), Harry Barandes (Island for NYSX; Richard III at the Public), Brian Cheng ("Seeking: The Web Series;" Island and Pericles for NYSX), Franny Civitano (Amios' Shotz), Chris Corporandy (The State Plays at The Ohio Theatre), Tom Degnan ("One Life to Live;" "As The World Turns;" "The Following;" "Magic City"), Vince Gatton (The Life and Death of King John for NYSX; Candy and Dorothy), Eleanor Handley (Limonade Tous les Jours with Austin Pendleton at The Cell), Kim Krane (The Mirror Show at NY Fringe Festival), Philip Mutz (Gay Camp; "Reality Whores"), Sarah Nedwek (Venus in Fur at Rep Theatre of St. Louis), Elizabeth Neptune (The Learned Ladies at the June Havoc Theatre; Island and The Life and Death of King John for NYSX), Annie Paul (As You Like It at Soho Rep), Katherine Puma (Othello for NYSX), Kelli Ruttle (Bill W. and Dr. Bob at Soho Playhouse), Michael Shattner (Pericles and NYIT Award-nominee for Island, both with NYSX), Carey Van Driest (Othello for NYSX; Best Actress Award for The International at Origin's 1st Irish Theatre Festival), and Katelin Wilcox (Island and The Life and Death of King John for NYSX; The Pawnbroker at Theatre Row).

The 2014 ShakesBEERean directors are Zac Hoogendyk (Thirds at Theatre Row); Cristina Lundy (Othello for NYSX); and Ross Williams (Island and The Life and Death of King John for NYSX).

New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX) offers theatrical programming that explores what happens when contemporary culture is infused with Shakespearean poetry and themes in unexpected ways. Providing fresh points of entry to the work so that modern audiences will be exposed to the intrinsic power of Shakespeare, NYSX's goal is to encourage appreciation of classical theater and to expand the reach of the art form within new and existing audiences.
