The Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, New York Live Arts' Resident Dance Company, returns to their home stage for the New York City premiere of the celebrated work Story/Time #35, 36, 37, 38 & 39, November 4-8 and 11-15 at 7:30pm. Noted by the San Francisco Chronicle as a work that's "Modern yet wry, gorgeously danced and at times discordant.a dance-theater roller coaster with surprises around every corner," the New York City performances will feature an array of guest artists, including Theaster Gates, Kathleen Chalfant and Lois Welk, with live music by Ted Coffey and The Black Monks of Mississippi.

"I look forward to returning to the Live Arts stage with my company to present the New York City premiere of Story/Time," said Jones. "Using chance procedures to create a unique performance for each show, I plan to add a special element for these NYC performances-a selection of guest artists including Theaster Gates and others. To quote John Cage, it's 'experimental action'-I hope you'll join us to see what surprises ensue."

Co-commissioned by Peak Performances at Montclair State University (NJ) and the Walker Art Center Story/Time (premiere 2012)features Bill T. Jones, Artistic Director of New York Live Arts and Co-Founder/Artistic Director of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, reading seventy of his own one-minute stories amidst a spellbinding landscape of dance and original music composed and mixed live at each performance by acclaimed composer, musician and intermedia artist Ted Coffey. Taking its inspiration from the legendary composer and artist John Cage's Indeterminacy (1958)-a work in which Cage sat alone on stage reading an unbroken stream of one-minute stories to a small audience-Story/Time features a modernist approach and is governed by chance procedures. Called "wondrously original" (Dance Magazine) and "radically engaging" (The Minneapolis Star-Tribune), the ever-changing Story/Time yields a unique performance each night.

For the New York City run, the Company will present Story/Time #35, 36, 37, 38 & 39, the 35th - 39th sequences of the work, featuring special guests and never before performed iterations of the work.

Story/Time #35 on November 4-6 features Jones and the Company in the classic version of the piece.

Story/Time #36 Kathleen Chalfant - Amble or Career,on November 7 and 8, brings the Tony-Award winning Chalfant on stage together with Bill T. Jones in the intimate setting of the Live Arts Theater. Amble or Career will feature an array of personal stories from both performers.

Story/Time #37 Lois Welk - A History, on November 11 and 12, features Lois Welk, who founded the American Dance Asylum Inc. (ADA) in 1972 and co-directed it with Jones and Arnie Zane, co-founder of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, from 1973-1979. Welk joins the Company on stage to share personal stories of her own that center on memories from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Welk's stories provide a special window into the history of Jones' and Zane's early years in Binghamton, NY.

Story/Time #38 on November 13 and 14, features Jones and the Company in the classic version of the piece.

Story/Time #39 Theaster Gates - Workin' and Wailing closes out the Company's home season for a one night only performance with the Chicago-based conceptual artist known for his practice of socially-minded space development, object management, performance and critical engagement. Gates will be accompanied by three members of The Black Monks of Mississippi, an experimental musical ensemble comprised of Gates' close collaborators who temporarily follow semi-strict adherence to the blues form, one that Gates believes to be the most important root in American music. Following the common thread of chance-procedures, story-telling, and a firm focus on time, Gates and the Monks will join Jones and the Company in an energetic evening of live music, art, stories and dance.
