New York Live Arts will present Fresh Tracks, the latest installment of the Fresh Tracks Performance and Residency Program, December 19 - 21 at 7:30pm. The 2013-14 Fresh Tracks Artists include Martita Abril, Maximilian Balduzzi, Ben Grinberg and Nick Gillette, Daniel Holt, Leslie Parker and Gabrielle Revlock.
This year's Fresh Tracks performance will include the following works: Ripping Up the Finish by Abril, inspired by the behavior of a plastic bag in motion, what provokes it to move and the different qualities it acquires from external forces; REQUIEM/Imposter by Balduzzi, a study on loss and transformation that challenges the inevitability of mortality; Communitas by Grinberg and Gillette, a duet at the intersection of dance and theater which explores balance, stability and exhaustion; A Monk's Quantum Dinner with Andre by Holt, a fusion of krump, popping, contemporary and house vocabularies that physicalizes the intent and conversation at the quantum level of the body; Crossroads/Gateways by Parker, which draws upon the sacred and traditional and examines the potential to affirm and reposition black identity in America; and Revlock's Halo, an intimate and sensual solo that explores the fields of energy around the dancing body through the use of a hula hoop.
This showcase performance features new work by these six emerging choreographers who were selected by an annual live audition. Created in 1965 by Dance Theater Workshop and now continued as a signature program of New York Live Arts, the Fresh Tracks Performance and Residency Program selects six early career artists annually to receive comprehensive performance and residency support. The program begins with a showcase performance in New York Live Arts' Theater. Following the performance, each artist receives a 50-hour creative residency in the New York Live Arts studios for research and development of new work. Additionally, artists receive introductory level professional development workshops in marketing, fundraising and career development. Under the guidance of Artistic Advisor Levi Gonzalez, Fresh Tracks artists participate in dialogue sessions facilitating open discussion about their creative process, as well as one-on-one consultations.
The 2013-14 Fresh Tracks artists come from a unique range of movement backgrounds, defining new terrain in contemporary dance, acrobatic physical theater, krump and popping. These six emerging choreographers were selected by the 2013 Fresh Tracks audition panel including Kyle Abraham, Paisid Aramphongphan, Ephrat Asherie, Leah Cox, Boo Froebel, Wendy Perron, Carla Peterson and Vicky Shick.
Previous Fresh Tracks artists include: Jeff Duncan (1965), Deborah Jowitt (1968), Wendy Perron (1970), Alice Teirstein (1974), Bill T.
