New York Live Arts 2019 Live Ideas Gala, co-chaired by Matthew Putman, Slobodan Randjelovi and Jon Stryker, and hosted by award-winning director and photographer and noted social activist Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri, pays tribute to Live Arts' annual Live Ideas Festival. The Gala will take place at the Caldwell Factory, 547 W 26th St, New York City on Monday, March 25th starting with a cocktail reception followed by a dinner catered by BITE and performances.
The 2019 Live Ideas Award will be presented to TED and Chris Anderson, for TED's commitment as a catalyst for social, political, and scientific inquiry, and to the spread of valuable ideas. As founder of Future Publishing, Imagine Media and the Sapling Foundation which later acquired the TED conference in 2001, Anderson has launched more than 100 successful magazines and websites. Anderson works from a strategy of radical openness as he has expanded not only to TED and TEDx but also covering a myriad topics from science, to business, to key global and social issues.
Live Ideas Gala honorees include computer scientist, composer, visual artist, and author, Jaron Lanier, for his commitment to examining and challenging the social effects of AI and new technology and its impact on humanity. The second honoree is Award-winning actor Jeffrey Wright for his profound work in his award-winning role in Westworld, posing questions about what it means to be human in an age of Artificial Intelligence.
The evening will feature special performances from Singer/Songwriter Twin Shadow and by the legendary Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, with more performances to be announced.
"Each year, our Live Arts Gala pays tribute to the Live Ideas Festival. This year's festival, Live Ideas: Artificial Intelligence, Are You Brave Enough For The Brave New World will interrogate the dramatic changes AI is bringing to our world and examine what it means to be human as we look toward the future" states Bill T. Jones, Live Arts' Artistic Director. "We are thrilled to award TED and Chris Anderson, and to honor Jaron Lanier and Jeffrey Wright for shining a light on our responsibility to ensure that ethics are at the forefront of AI advancements.
