Once a free and open society, Vienna is bitterly divided between high morals and greed of commerce. Disguised as a monk, the Duke wanders the land, prying into the daily lives of his subjects. When his deputy sentences Claudio to death, the virtue and purity of his sister, Isabella, is the price she must pay to save her brother's life. We learn through the Duke that mercy, understanding, and compassionate leadership are the keys to restoring harmony in any society. Measure for Measure is directed by Artistic Director, Stephen Burdman.
Founded in 2000 by Stephen Burdman, New York Classical Theatre reinvigorates and creates audiences for the theatre by presenting free and accessible productions of popular classics and forgotten masterpieces in non-traditional public spaces throughout New York City. Its signature performance style, Panoramic Theatre,
transforms sweeping public venues into dynamic settings, adapting scripts to showcase the unique characteristics of each space, and using different sites within each environment to stage specific scenes.
Stephen Burdman states, "Panoramic Theatre is an immersive performance style which heightens the connection between the actor, audience an venue. Our productions, in magical settings, illuminate the plays and create fun immersive experiences for audiences of all ages."
