On Friday, April 13th, Saturday, April 14th and Sunday April 15th, 2018, New York City's TheatreLab, as part of their TLAB Shares program, will host a workshop production of EMPATH, an empathic experiment of a solo show written by and starring notable empath David Sauvage. Tickets are $25.
David Sauvage is an empath. Featured as a master of his craft in the Guardian and Vice among others publications, he has the rare ability to feel what you are feeling and see what it means for your life. In this up close and personal, one-of-a-kind, three night only production, David will unfurl the surreal story of how a cynical Jew from Los Angeles uncovered this psychic superpower.
Through a combination of autobiography and performance art, David will demonstrate his supernatural talent. Reading volunteers from the audience, he will close his eyes, empty himself of his own feelings, surrender his nervous system over to whomever he's sitting with, and express whatever he finds with compassion and love. He doesn't claim to be 100% accurate, but will uncover aspects of you that no one could have known by ordinary means.
David has performed his unique readings at art galleries, in shipping containers in the middle of Times Square, and in virtual reality through Microsoft's social VR platform Altspace. He will soon be performing at South by Southwest. But theatre is David's first love. He began his career as a playwright in the early 2000's with several produced plays. The Hollywood Reporter, reviewing his play The Burning House, wrote: "David Sauvage has a sure ear for detail and dialogue that echo the cadences and wordplay of Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard." David left the theatre to direct and produce documentaries and commercials. This unique experience marks David's return to the stage. This production is a test. David and his director, Catie Davis, will be experimenting with bringing together autobiography and spontaneous immersion for the first time.
