New York City Ballet Adds SWAN LAKE Performance to February Schedule

New York City Ballet announced today that due to popular demand the Company will add a performance of Peter Martins' full-length production of Swan Lake to its 2011 winter performance calendar.

The additional performance will take place on Friday, February 11 at 8 p.m., which will now be the first of nine performances of Swan Lake that NYCB will perform this winter. The production will continue with the following performance schedule: February 13 at 3 p.m.; February 16 at 7:30 p.m.; February 17, 18 and 19 at 8 p.m.; February 20 at 3 p.m.; February 22 at 7:30 p.m.; and February 26 at 2 p.m.

In making the announcement, NYCB Executive Director Kathy Brown said, "We have been overwhelmed by the interest in this production since tickets for Swan Lake first went on sale last year, and the eight originally scheduled performances are now virtually sold out. With hundreds of ticket inquires for Swan Lake continuing to come in each day, it seemed that adding a performance would be a great way to allow additional audiences members to experience this ballet."

Brown added that the only possible way for the Company to schedule an additional performance of Swan Lake was to replace a currently scheduled repertory program. The February 11 performance was originally announced as a mixed repertory program consisting of George Balanchine's Divertimento No. 15, Prodigal Son, and Symphony in Three Movements. "NYCB is performing these three wonderful ballets on other dates throughout our season, and we will work with any patrons who have already purchased tickets for February 11 to exchange their tickets for other performances if they wish," Brown said. 

Subscribers and single ticket buyers who have already purchased tickets for the February 11 performance will have the option of keeping their tickets for the performance of Swan Lake, or exchanging them for another performance.

Peter Martins' full-length staging of Swan Lake was created in 1996 for the Royal Danish Ballet and first performed by NYCB in 1999. Set to Tschaikovsky's beloved score, the production features sets and costumes by the acclaimed Danish painter Per Kirkeby.
