"What makes a person risk everything, and with absolutely no guarantees abandon all semblance of reality and security to follow their dreams"? That is the question Janis, an outspoken, sometimes to the point of inappropriate, amateur filmmaker sets out to explore in her documentary. She finds three artists: Marin, a 30 something with dreams of changing the world with her music; Siobhan, an actress who believes telling stories can make a difference; and Sam, a writer who just may have a "classic American novel" in him. They're roommates in a tiny apartment in Queens, they're artists, they're dreamers and they're broke.
Whether performing for an almost empty room, being dismissed at an audition for a clown or having an article rejected, they continue on, because they have to. It's not a choice, it's who they are. For our protagonist, singing is the only time she feels like she is truly alive, like she is 'here for a reason', so how can she not fight on? How can any of us not fight on?
Creating this series has been a dream come true, for writer, director and actor, Jean Ann Garrish, who also wrote original music for the series. "When I was on tour with NYC Player's 'Neutral Hero', I was surrounded by incredible artists who all had their own creative outlets. They were completely dedicated to the work we were doing with the show, but they were also writing and making music, or making jewelry, and challenging themselves. I wanted to do that too. I went back to writing and focused on what I knew, the struggle of the artist."
A new episode will be released every Tuesday, starting on April 12th on YouTube & Vimeo. Season 1 will be comprised of a total of 6 episodes, ranging from 2-6 minutes each. Ms. Garrish knows that this road "isn't for everyone. And those who have taken the 'safe' route with their lives don't always understand why someone would continue to, for lack of a better word, torture themselves by following a dream...I want this story to inspire someone, anyone, to not give up. I want the dreamers to recognize they are not alone. That yes, following your dream may never be easy, but it will most certainly be worth it."
