A new rock musical, Air Guitar, will run as part of the New York International Fringe Festival- FringeNYC, from August 11th through 27th at the Harry de Jur Playhouse (at the Henry Street Settlement, 466 Grand Street).
A production of the Present Company and presented by Gideon Productions, LLC, Air Guitar "is the story of Drew, a guitarist with twelve fans and a floundering marriage. Drew reluctantly enters the bizarre world of International Air Guitar competition-- and discovers that sometimes you rock harder when there's nothing to hold on to," according to press notes on the show, which is from the writers of 2005's FringeNYC hit Fleet Week: The Musical.
Air Guitar features actors Becca Ayers (Avenue Q, Sarah, Plain and Tall, upcoming Les Miserables) Jeff Hiller (Slut, Silence! The Musical), Clayton Dean Smith (Outward Bound, The Blue Flower), Stephen Graybill, Michael Poignand and Renee Delio as well as house band Gods of Fire, the rising stars of the New York Metal resurgence. Director Stephen Wargo is the Artistic Director of Personal Space Theatrics (Don Juan in Chicago, The Duchess: a.k.a. Wallis Simpson and Orchidelirium). Choreographer Christopher F. Davis (The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway, Stop Kiss) also returns from the Fleet Week team.
Mac Rogers (book), Sean Williams (music), and Jordana Williams (lyrics) team up again after having collaborated on Fleet Week (Winner, Outstanding Musical, FringeNYC 2005) and The First Annual St. Ignatius Hanukah Pageant (presented at Theatre Row last December).
All tickets are $15. For tickets visit www.FringeNYC.org or call (in New York): (212) 279-4488 or (outside New York): 1-888-FringeNYC.
