New Revue Showcases Songs of Charles Bloom, May 15

The songs of composer Charles Bloom (Insomnia, Heaven Knows) will be presented in a brand new revue, I Prefer To Dream, which will be performed at The Triad Theatre (158 West 72nd Street) on Monday, May 15 at 7 PM.

Conceived and directed by Andrew Glant-Linden, I Prefer To Dream features performers James Donegan, Leo Ash Evens, Kelli Maguire and Julie Reyburn.

I Prefer To Dream also features musical director Ray Fellman on piano, Christopher Downes on bass and Steve Singer on drums.

Bloom has, to date, written the book, music and lyrics to Pablo (about the young life of Picasso), Insomnia and Heaven Knows. Pablo was awarded a concert reading under the auspices The West Coast Musical Theatre Alliance at the Los Angeles Theatre Center (Allison Bergman, Director). Insomnia was presented as part of The Midtown Theatre Festival in 2004 (Allison Bergman, Director) and was selected to The Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre in England in the spring of 2005. Heaven Knows (starring Julie Reyburn and directed by Andrew Glant-Linden) was given a staged reading at The York Theatre Company.

Bloom's cabaret/revue works have been heard in clubs and concert halls on both coasts and across the pond. Among the long list of talented artists to perform songs from his extensive and stylistically diverse catalogue are Michael Feinstein, B.D. Wong, Cheyenne Jackson, David Burnham, Vicki Lewis,Richard Todd Adams, Jon Philip Alman,Lindy Robbins, Sharon McKnight and Bruce Vilanch. On May 18th-19th, Heaven Knows will be receiving a staged reading by The Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre in North Carolina; and on May 22nd, Pablo will be one of 3 three finalists selected to The Next Big Musical Competition as presented by AnyMinuteNow Productions (www.anyminutenow.org).
