New Production Of Sondheim's MARRY ME A LITTLE To Open In May Image

A new professional production of Stephen Sondheim's Marry Me A Little will run at the Off-West End Drayton Arms Theatre in May.

Rarely-produced in the UK, this delightful revue from 1980 features songs cut from - among others - the original productions of A Little Night Music, Follies, and Company, and was developed by Craig Lucas (whose book-writing credits include The Light In The Piazza and An American In Paris) and Norman René.

Told entirely through Sondheim's music, with no dialogue, the plot the plot follows the memories and fantasies of two singletons, regularly alone in their New York studio apartments; little do they know that they're just a floor away from each other and the end of their lonely dreams. It's a funny, sophisticated and moving evening, and a fascinating look at "the songs that got away"

The show stars an all-American cast, Stephanie Schmalzle (as the 'Woman') and Keith Merrill (as the 'Man'). Both stage and music are directed by Alisdair Kitchen, whose company, Euphonia Studio, received five-star praise for their recent production of Hedda Gabler at the same venue: 'gripping, weirdly beautiful and deeply, achingly human' (LondonTheatre1.com)

Marry Me A Little is a Euphonia Studio production in partnership with Rye Arts Festival, and runs for three weeks only at The Drayton Arms Theatre from May 8th to 26th.
