Though fans may be asking for a GILMORE GIRLS musical, Amy Sherman-Palladino has something else in store. She's just not ready to share it yet.

The creator of the hit show, known for its fast-paced, witty dialogue, announced today at Entertainment Weekly's panel at the ATX Festival that she is adapting an undisclosed movie into a musical.

"I'm writing the book to a musical right now," she said. "It just happened."

Sherman-Palladino said the show would be totally new- at least to American audiences. "It's based on a movie that nobody would've seen because it's not an American and it's nothing like it... It's original. I'm just gonna say that."

She then bemoaned the long process that is writing a musical saying, "You have to understand something with musicals: Your great, great grandchildren will see the musical that I am writing now, because if you think movies take a long time to get produced, musicals take years, and years, and years, and years."

"Boy, you can't be in it for a buck, doing theater, because it's just not about that," Sherman-Palladino said. "It's about really, really doing something beautiful and different and creative for the masses. It's an amazing art form. It's my favorite art form."

No word yet on the rest of the creative team, or premiere plans, but keep checking with BroadwayWorld as we reveal more news about this exciting story!
