The Leopold Group, a new Chicago-based modern dance company, will produce the original musical Green Eyes at Theatre Building Chicago in July. Green Eyes, an hour-long multi-media fusion of musical theatre, modern dance, folk-pop music and video, is "the story of the rise and fall of a relationship told by two singers, two dancers, and a five-piece band," as described in press notes.
The Green Eyes creative team is led by composer/performer Brian Mazzaferri and choreographer/ director Lizzie Leopold. Mazzaferri holds degrees in musical theatre and philosophy from the University of Michigan and both disciplines greatly influence his music. Leopold, artistic director of the Leopold Group dance company and a dancer with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, is also a University of Michigan graduate, with a degree in dance. Green Eyes was seen previously last May in a concert version at Joe's Pub in New York City.
Green Eyes will have four preview performances on July 20th and 21st at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., and will be open to the press on Sunday July 22nd at 5 p.m. Other performances will be July 26th at 7:30 p.m., July 27th and 28th at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. and July 29th at 5 p.m.
