According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new music drama is being developed at FOX from producer and nine-time Grammy winner Mary J. Blige. Titled 8 COUNT, the project is inspired by the life of choreographer Laurieann Gibson.

Described as "a music-fueled drama", the story will center on "a young choreographer who, in order to redeem her damaged reputation in the cutthroat music/dance world, must invest in an up-and-coming singer who also has one last shot at stardom."

SHADES OF BLUE Erika L. Johnson will write the script, with Grammy winning Gibson executive producing alongside Blige, who will also serve as a music adviser on the drama.

Gibson is well known for choreographing music videos and live performances for such artists as Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and more. Her work on TV can be seen in MAKING THE BAND, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, DANCE MOMS and STARMAKER.
Blige will next be seen on TV in the upcoming Netflix feature MUDBOUND.
