The New Group--which will next present Cynthia Nixon in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie--has announced two new plays for its 2006-2007 season.
No specific dates have been announced for
The Fever by
Wallace Shawn (
The Music Teacher, Aunt Dan and Lemon), which will be performed this winter. "An anonymous narrator wakes up in a war-torn country with a terrible
fever, unable to reconcile the privilege she has enjoyed with her
current surroundings. Shawn's brilliant one-person play examines the
links between the affluence many Americans take for granted and the
horrors of poverty and suffering that haunt the lives of millions," according to New Group notes. A director, creative team and cast have not been announced.
The Accomplices, by Bernard Weinraub, will premiere in spring of 2007. "In 1940, Hillel Kook, a.k.a. Peter Bergson, arrives in the US fresh from
the underground resistance in Palestine. He seeks aid for the rescue of
European Jews from the Nazis. Hillel is shocked to find himself blocked
by both the Roosevelt administration and the Jewish establishment.
Veteran
NY Times reporter Bernard Weinraub writes a blistering account
of the fight to save millions, and the code of silence and inaction
that continues to haunt us to this day." Ian Morgan will direct the play, for which cast and creative team have not been announced.
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, adapted by Jay Presson Allen from the novel by Muriel Spark, will be directed by
Scott Elliott. It will run from September 20th through November 11th as the first production of the season; opening night is set for October 9th. Tony Award-winner Nixon stars in the title role.
All three productions will perform at the Acorn Theatre. Visit
