New Drama PILLOW ON THE STAIRS Begins Next Month at the cell

the cell will present the World Premiere of PILLOW ON THE STAIRS, a new drama by Brona Crehan. Directed by John Keating, previews begin February 11 with opening slated for Thursday, February 19.

Ever wonder what your life would be like if you'd made one different choice? An unplanned pregnancy sets off a chain of events in the lives of three people in PILLOW ON THE STAIRS. What follows creates a web of secrets and denials that binds this trio of ordinary, flawed individuals together for a lifetime. Every decision has lasting consequences in this intimate story about love, loyalty, betrayal, and trust.

PILLOW ON THE STAIRS stars John McConnell (The Weir on Broadway), Jacqueline Kealy (Eclipsed at Irish Rep) and Brona Crehan. The production team includes Gertjan Houben (lighting), Florian Staab (sound design) and Mackenzie Meeks (stage manager).

In addition to PILLOW ON THE STAIRS, Brona Crehan has written two other plays, Money for Jam, and Jack and Jill. She is currently working on a series of short stories. Her 10-minute play "Comfort & Joy" was performed at Poor Mouth Theatre Company in their Putting on Your Shorts play festival in 2013. As a performer, she is the audiobook narrator/singer for A Story of Ireland by Gan Anaim Productions, France. In New York, she has performed with Macalla Theatre Company (44 Sycamore and The Famine Diaries) and Fort Hill Players (The Odd Couple, Money for Jam, Burning Down the House, Deathtrap, Don't Drink the Water).

John Keating has directed all four of Fallen Angel Theatre's New York productions - Eva the Chaste, Talent, Cell, and most recently the co-production of Airswimming with Irish Rep, also directed The Good Thief for 1st Irish Festival. As an actor, John Keating's New York Theatre credits include, Theatre for a New Audience (Much Ado About Nothing, Taming of the Shrew, The Broken Heart, Measure for Measure), Atlantic (The New York Idea), Mint (John Ferguson and Is Life Worth Living?), Roundabout (Juno and The Paycock), Talking Band (Belize), Irish Rep (14 productions, upcoming, Da, recently Juno and the Paycock, The Weir, Aristocrats and Around the World in 80 Days), Irish Arts Center (5 shows, most recently the site specific Ladies and Gents). He has appeared at most leading regional theatres, including A.C.T., McCarter, Old Globe, Wilma (Barrymore nomination - Lead Actor for Raw Boys), Westport Playhouse, Hartford Stage, Two River, Cincinnati Playhouse and others. On TV, he has been seen recurring in HBO's Boardwalk Empire, as Pickering in HBO miniseries John Adams, Lipstick Jungle, Nurse Jackie, Law and Order SVU, The Following. He has 90 audiobook narrations (4 Earphone awards/Audie win in 2013).

the cell, A Twenty First Century Salon (Nancy Manocherian, Founding Artistic Director and Kira Simring, Artistic Director) is dedicated to creating works to mine the mind, pierce the heart, and awaken the soul. the cell is a not-for-profit collective for artists to incubate and present new work.

PILLOW ON THE STAIRS runs February 11 - 28, Wednesday - Friday at 7pm with an additional performance on Feb 28 at 7pm. the cell is located at 338 W 23rd St, between 8th & 9th Avenues -- accessible from the C & E trains at 23rd Street.
