The times may have changed, but for one
young and determined girl, the bonds of family are still the strongest ties of
all in this contemporary and humorous twist to the classic Hans Christian
Anderson tale THE SNOW QUEEN. Adapted and directed by Glory Sims Bowen, the
show will be presented by FHB Theater Productions and the Looking Glass Theatre
Company, and begin a seven week run at the Looking Glass Theatre, located at
Norwegian children Gerda and her little brother Kai are
as close as a brother and sister can be. But one day, Kai is kidnapped by evil
Snow Queen, who whisks him away to her far-away world. Determined to save him,
Gerda sets off on a dangerous quest, traveling through several mysterious lands,
each with its own hidden dangers. On her journey she encounters a talking
river, the mysterious Martha Flower (think Donna Reed on steroids), a princess
who thinks marriage is the solution to all the world's problems and the
streetwise Robber Girl, who becomes Gerda's best friend. A family friendly
story, THE SNOW QUEEN is also a coming of age tale as Gerda learns much about
herself and what life has to offer. The story ends happily, but it's happiness
on Gerda's terms, no one else's.
