Netflix is premiering the AZIZ ANSARI: BURIED ALIVE today, Friday, November 1st. Ansari's stand-up comedy performance is now available to stream in all territories where Netflix is available - U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Latin America, the Nordics and the Netherlands.
Filmed live at the Merriam Theater in Philadelphia, "Buried Alive" features "Parks and Recreation" star Ansari focusing his unique Viewpoint on pending adulthood, babies, marriage, and love in the modern era. The show follows Ansari's successful live tour of the same name, during which he performed in front of sold out crowds in over 75 cities all over the world at venues including New York's Carnegie Hall, London's Hammersmith Apollo and the Sydney Opera House. It is a follow-up to his previous stand-up performances "Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening" and "Dangerously Delicious," also available on Netflix.
"Aziz is the perfect example of the new generation of comedy stars. He's smart, multi-faceted and socially engaged with his fans, making him a perfect fit for the Netflix audience," said Lisa Nishimura, VP of Originals, Netflix. "We're excited to share this exclusive comedy with our members."
"This special is much, much different than my previous two," said Ansari. "As I hit 30, my material got very personal as I grappled with the gravity of the adult world - love, marriage, babies, and more. Do I really have to deal with all that now? Are my ding dong friends really getting married and having their own children? I couldn't imagine having a kid right now. After I type this sentence, I'm gonna drink an apple juice and watch 'Jurassic Park' - if that's a guy that's supposed to be ready to be a father, I'm very concerned. That's what 'Buried Alive' is about."
"AZIZ ANSARI: Buried Alive" is executive produced by Dave Becky, Mike Berkowitz, David Miner, Brian Volk-Weiss, Scott Rudin and Eli Bush.
AZIZ ANSARI is one of the biggest stars in the comedy world. Rolling Stone put him on the cover of their special comedy issue labeling him "the funniest man under 30" and The Hollywood Reporter said that he "has become one of the most prolific writers and performers on the comedy scene in recent years."
Ansari co-stars opposite Amy Poehler in the beloved Emmy-nominated NBC series "Parks and Recreation," which is in production on its sixth season. Ansari's portrayal of government employee 'Tom Haverford' has earned numerous accolades including Entertainment Weekly's naming him one of their "Breakout TV Stars," TV Guide's naming him a "Scene Stealer" and People Magazine's naming him 2011's "Funniest Dude in Prime Time." Ansari also performed the much buzzed about gig as host of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.
Ansari has also kept busy in the film world. His voice was featured in the Twentieth Century FOX animated hit film Epic, and he had a hilarious cameo in This Is The End opposite Seth Rogen and James Franco. He was previously seen starring in the action comedy 30 Minutes or Less opposite Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride, and Universal's Funny People. Additional film credits include Get Him to the Greek, I Love You, Man, Observe and Report, and Ice Age: Continental Drift.
The Penguin Press has recently acquired his first book, an untitled investigation of what he argues is an entirely new era for singles, in which the basic issues facing a single person - from who we meet, how we meet them, and what happens next - have been radically altered by new technologies. The book's tentative publication date is September 2015.
Ansari's stand up work has enjoyed unparalleled success over the past few years. His second hour-long stand-up special "Dangerously Delicious" was self-released online through AzizAnsari.com for $5. In 2010, he had an hour-long standup special on Comedy Central titled "Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening." The special and subsequent DVD/CD were both extremely successful and both albums continue to be a mainstay on iTunes' comedy best-seller list.
