Representatives from Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment (NWE) and Shaanxi Qinhuang Grand Theatre Performing Arts Co., Ltd came together this afternoon at The Minskoff Theatre on Broadway, to announce a new world-class, state-of-the-Art Theatre and a new spectacular entertainment, located in Xi'an China adjacent to the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses exhibition, one of the world's most popular travel destinations.
The Legend of Emperor Qin is presented by Shaanxi Qinhuang Grand Theater Performing Arts Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shaanxi Miracle Achievements Development Co.; Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment serves as the managing partner for the theater and executive producer of the production.
The Legend of Emperor Qin reunites some membersfrom the creative team behind the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with Hollywood composer Klaus Badelt, writer Sun Haohui, and director Zhao Ming. With its epic story, grand-scale dance numbers and spectacular costume, lighting and design elements, The Legend of Emperor Qin will be the world's first stage production to depict the story of the Chinese Qin Dynasty.
The Legend of Emperor Qin will play year-round at the Qinhuang Grand Theatre, at Qin Cultural Tourism Resort, adjacent to the legendary Terra Cotta Warriors exhibition. Launching in spring 2014, The Legend of Emperor Qin will be the inaugural production for the new state-of-the-art performance venue. With an investment of over $65,000,000, the theater covers 236,000 square feet, has seating capacity of 2,000, and houses one of the biggest stage LED screens in China, making the state-of-the-art-venue one of the largest destination theatres in China.

An outgrowth of production efforts in China, Mr. Nederlander established the "China on Broadway" initiative to bring the best of Chinese culture to Broadway in New York City. NWE presented "Soul of Shaolin," the first production from China to appear on Broadway, at the Marquis Theater. The productions received both Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominations. NWE also presented The Dream of the Red Chamber, a production the city of Shanghai gave as a "cultural exchange gift" to the City of New York, at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall Theater.
Educational initiatives include The Cultural Trade & Industry Exchange Program in New York, established in conjunctionwith China's Ministry of Culture, introducing Chinese cultural officials and theatre professionals to all facets of the Broadway industry. Collaboration with various educational institutions across China including Peking University, the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and collaboration with the Beijing Central Academy of Drama in the creation of a Chinese language version of Fame.
Mr. Nederlander and NWE joined forces with Zorlu Property Group, one of the most widely established conglomerates in Turkey and Europe, to manage and operate Turkey's largest performing arts center. Located in the heart of Istanbul and scheduled to open in November 2013, the Zorlu Center Performing Arts Center, will be comprised of two theatres (one seating 2,300, the other 770) on 50,000 square meters construction area.
In March 2012, Mr. Nederlander and NWE entered into an agreement to manage and operate two theatres in Taiwan, located in the Hualien Hakka Tulou Buildings Humanities Center. Situated in Hualien City and close to the famed Takoro Gorge visited by millions of visitors each year, the theatres include a world-class 1,350 seat theater in the heart of the development and a 500 seat dramatic house, scheduled to open in 2014.
In November 2011, Mr. Nederlander presented Broadway Ambassadors in Havana as part of the 14th Annual Havana Theatre Festival, the first Broadway style presentation from the United States to take place in Cuba in over 50 years.
