the National Theatre Company of China presents 'Don Quixote' as a key original drama to Chinese audience. Famous experimental drama director Meng Jinghui has been invited to interpret the western classical novel in Chinese theatre language. The production will be staged from January 6-10, and from January 12-16.

The production ensemble includes writing planner: Liao Yimei (Chinese famous playwright and writer); Playwright: Kang He (Chinese famous poet, playwright and writer); Director: Meng Jinghui (Chinese famous drama director) and Stage Designer: Zhang Wu.

'Don Quixote' tells us a story about a middle-aged gentleman from a declining noble family. Obsessed with the chivalrous ideals touted in books he has read, he dons an old suit of armor and rides his old horse like an ancient knight. He designates an ugly farm girl as his lady love, and persuades Sancho Panza to accompany him as his faithful squire. During his three expenditures, he tries to defend the helpless and destroy the wicked; however, he is challenged and humiliated. For example, he was severely beaten and used to be sent back as a mad person. In the end, after he was defeated by his friend in the disguise of a knight, Don Quixote forswears all the chivalric truths he followed and dies from a disease.

'Don Quixote' will run on January 6-10, and from January 12-16. Performances are at 7:30PM. The theatre can be reached by Underground: Line 1, Tian'anmen West Station (Exit C) or Buses: No.1 , 4 , 10 , 20 , 37 , 52 , 726 , 728 and 802 to the stop of Tian'anmen West.
