Natalie Toro, Andrew Call and More Set for ZAPATA! THE MUSICAL at NYMF

The New York Musical Theatre Festival, LC Productions and Julie Miller will present the world premiere of ZAPATA! The Musical, a revolutionary musical that tells the story of Emiliano Zapata, hero of the Mexican revolution, who appears in the 21st century to inspire a member of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

ZAPATA! The Musical will star Natalie Toro (A Tale of Two Cities, Les Miserables, A Christmas Carol), Enrique Acevedo (Michael John LaChiusa’s Giant), Andrew Call (American Idiot, Cry Baby, Altar Boyz), Eliseo Roman (Leap of Faith, In The Heights), Maria Eberline (Elphaba in Wicked), Blanca Camacho (In The Heights), Tony Castellanos (National Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar), Victor Hernandez (Bonnie & Clyde), Jen Anaya (Temple of the Souls), Erin Maya (The Donkey Show), Grisel Pren Monje (Arthur Aviles Typical Theater Company), Marco Antonio Santiago (National Tour of The Wedding Singer), Henry Gainza (4 Guys Named Jose) Carbonell Award winner Nick Duckart, Carlos Gonzalez (National Tour of In The Heights), Sasha Hollinger (National Tour of In The Heights) and Santiago Spivey (Seussical The Musical).

A magnificent love story set against the cinematic backdrop of revolution, ZAPATA! The Musical will be performed at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, Pershing Square Signature Center on July 24 at 8pm, July 25 at 5pm, July 27 at 5pm, July 27 at 9pm, July 28 at 1pm and July 29 at 1pm. ZAPATA! The Musical features music and lyrics by author and LA/Nashville songwriter Peter Edwards and a book co-written by Peter Edwards and artist-activist Ana Edwards. Elizabeth Lucas (Prospect Theater Company’s Myths and Hymns, Bigfoot and Other Lost Souls, Clear Blue Tuesday) will direct the production. Luis Salgado (In The Heights, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) will provide choreography and musical staging. Julie Miller (Show Choir! The Musical, The Last Starfighter, Clear Blue Tuesday) is the general manager.

Jesse Vargas (Glory Days, Saved!, The Ritz) will provide musical arrangements and orchestrations. Kenneth Gartman (Show Choir! The Musical, The Toymaker) is the musical director. Charles Santoro (Next To Normal, Spring Awakening) is the assistant musical director. Aaron Scheckler (Queen of the Mist, The Rap Guide to Evolution) is the scenic and props designer. Asa Benally (Tricks the Devil Taught Me) is the costume designer. Jason T. Hurley (The Wiz) is the sound designer. Anne Davison (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) is the dramaturg.

Annelise Castleberry (North Carolina Shakespeare Company) is the production stage manager. Katie Kavett (Lonely, I’m Not) and John Nehlick (In The Next Room) are the assistant stage managers. Valeria Cossu (The Wedding Singer Assistant Director) and Grisel Pren Monje are the assistants to the choreographer.
