Natalia Arias (Brighton, Great Britain, 1977)

Born in Great Britain in 1977, Natalia Arias was raised in Bogotá, Colombia, and studied Photography at the Savannah Col- lege of Art and Design. She lives and works in Miami, FL.

Arias' work analyzes modern culture through sarcasm, taboos, clichés, myths and icons. This analysis is frequently conduct- ed through the subject of female identity, representing the many facets of the roles and attributes assigned to the gender. Through the medium of photography, Arias presents the viewer with non-conventional, unexpected and arresting images of the female body. Her art, occasionally controversial, is intimate and sincere.

The process of transition and transformation is another of her main subjects. By presenting images in a state of flux, Arias poses questions about existence and identity. Her portrayals range between repulsive and seductive as she explores the constant mutations of life and creation. Using ambiguous and mysterious compositions, she connects the viewer with those questions.

Arias has exhibited her work in major U.S. cities such as New York, Miami, Chicago, St. Louis, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, as well as internationally in Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and England, among others.
