Nasty Women Unite Fest, a multi-day arts festival focused on intersectional feminism, begins its run with an opening night party at William Hallet in Astoria.

Nasty Women Unite Fest seeks to bring together artists of various disciplines and backgrounds for a creative conversation on the state of feminism in 2017.

Performances and panels will take place at Joe's Pub, Stonestreet Studios, Q.E.D., and The Paper Box. All proceeds will benefit the ACLU.

"I set out to create NWUF as a way to highlight the appalling distance that women still have from equality and to celebrate the efforts being taken to amend it. As a proud feminist, I was inspired by the magnitude of the Women's March, the sheer number of individuals who participated in a cause that has been so dear to me and had for so long seemed incomprehensibly a "fringe" sentiment. This was all I needed. It was important to me to facilitate a platform where varied feminist communities could come together," said NWUF founder Allison Brzezinski.

The Opening Night Party at William Hallet will feature a visual art exhibition, with work by Loredana Gasparotto, Lily Moebes, Infinithuy, The Artist Red, Hannah Layden, Mollie Charlotte Suss, Kyle Anthony, Eirdis Ragnarsdottir, Jenny Kroik, Sara Hames, Aamil Qureshi, Hannah Cauhépé, and Kate Moran. During the party, NWUF will also present live musical performances by Sydney Horn, Katie Haller, and MEGAN SASS.

NWUF Film Screening at Stonestreet Studios will feature work by Poppy Liu, ElizaBeth Boyd, Melanie Flanagan, Alyssa Bennett, Kate Moran, Anita Flores and Lorena Russi, Angel Yau, and Emily Walton. It will be preceded by a panel discussion on Nasty Women and the Fight for Health and Empowerment.

NWUF Dance Night at The Paper Box will feature performances by Femme, Katharine Pettit Creative, Kira Bucca, Nikita Chaudhry, Bridge & Olive, Versatile Poetiq, Elizabeth PW, Kelli Dunham, and Ladies Who Puppet. It will be preceded by a panel discussion on Nasty Women, Community Engagement and Activism.

NWUF COMEDY at QED will be emceed by Anita Flores and will feature work by Abby Feldman, Allyson Barkan, Hann Cowger, Sarah Kennedy, Srilatha Rajamani, Chewy May, and Franqi French. It will be preceded by a panel discussion on Nasty Women Bringing Humor to Intersectional Feminism.

NWUF at Joe's Pub will feature performances by Sohailla Mahjour, Sarah Krauss & Artists For Action, Ashley Lauren Rogers, Salome Egas, Taylor Tobin, Kendra Mittermeyer, Thoughtress, and Kiirstin Marilyn. It will be preceded by a panel discussion on Nasty Women Challenging Stigma Through The Arts and Technology.

"The intersectionality of feminism is the pivotal and most creative point of the movement. We need a place where feminism can be displayed for others and shared amongst ourselves. Feminism is a unifying idea with many shades and manifestations; and unlike the current government, NWUF understands that this diversity and multiplicity makes Feminism stronger. Art can create communities where social change is possible. Art can activate," says Brzezinski.
