NYU Student Actors Present A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM in Washington Square Park, 4/21 & 22

In honor of William Shakespeare's birthday, Shakespeare in the Square, a student group at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts will perform A Midsummer Night's Dream, rain or shine, in Washington Square Park's Garibaldi Plaza (east of the fountain), Saturday, April 21 at 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 22 at 3:00 p.m. Subway: A,B,C,D,E,F,M (W. 4th St.). The performances are free and open to the public. Seating is not provided.

The play begins with domestic strife among the gods and forbidden love among the mortals-but it ends with marriage for everyone. In between, a crew of aspiring thespians attempts to put on a play, despite the fact that their leading man has been transformed into a donkey. A Midsummer Night's Dream is produced and performed entirely by NYU undergraduate students. The production team comprises co-directors Rose Bochner and Noam Tomaschoff, producer and costume designer Dan Hasse, associate producer and properties master Spencer Kennard, stage managers Serena Adlerstein and Ben Hyde, and music directors Chris Dubrow and Sarah Cowell.

Cast members are: Flora Greeson, Jasper Hirose, Chris Kappel, Chris Luggiero, Liz McGlone, Taylor Myers, Shannon Paul, Asa Podolny, Austin Short, Caleb Shomaker, Francesca Smith, James Swanson, and Lelia Symington.

Shakespeare in the Square was co-founded in 2010 by Bochner, who is also artistic director, and Hasse, who is the executive director. The two freshmen set out to provide the only opportunity to watch and perform Shakespeare as Shakespeare intended-"under the sun and in front of a loud, standing, possibly distracted audience."
