NYU Steinhardt's Program in Vocal Performance today announced it will present the musical Grand Hotel this weekend, September 24-28, 2015. The show features book by Luther Davis, music and lyrics by George Forrest and Robert Wright, and additional music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. Dallett Norris directs.

Grand Hotel, the musical, is based on the 1932 film of the same name, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and was itself based on Vicki Baum's best-selling 1929 novel. It tells the stories of the eccentric guests at a luxurious Berlin hotel whose lives intersect over the course of a weekend in 1928. Their stories encompass love and heartbreak, valor and betrayal, fortune and ruin, comedy and tragedy, and birth and death. The musical originally opened on Broadway in 1989, earning 12 Tony nominations and enjoying a run that exceeded 1,000 performances.

NYU's production of Grand Hotel runs September 24-26 at 8 p.m., September 27 at 3 p.m., and September 28 at 8 p.m. at the Frederick Loewe Theatre (35 West 4th Street). Tickets are $20 general admission and $5 for students and seniors. The performance on Monday, September 28, is a special "Industry" performance, where attendees presenting a union card (AEA, SDC, USA, SAG) will be admitted free. For tickets, contact NYU Box Office at tickets.nyu.edu, call the box office at 212.998.4941, or visit in person at 566 LaGuardia Place (at Washington Square South).

Grand Hotel features music direction by Caleb Hoyer, assistant direction and choreography by MK Lawson, scenic design by Brittany Vasta, lighting design by Jimmy Lawlor, costume design by Karen Kinsley, and sound design by Benjamin Furiga. The production stage manager is Danielle Teague-Daniels and the assistant choreographer is Maria Malanga.
