Tony Nominee Meg Brussert Returns to BRIGADOON at NYU Steinhardt

NYU Steinhardt's Program in Vocal Performance will present Lerner and Loewe's Brigadoon from September 21-25, 2017. The show features book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. Renowned dancer and choreographer Agnes De Mille created the original dances. NYU Steinhardt's MK Lawson directs and choreographs.

Brigadoon tells the story of two Americans lost in the Scottish Highlands who happen upon a magical village that appears only for a single day once every 100 years. When one of the men falls for an enchanting villager, he faces the choice of whether to return home to his fiancé in New York or to stay forever in this mysterious place. Among the show's many enduring songs is the classic "Almost Like Being in Love."

The initial 1947 Broadway production of Brigadoon ran for nearly 700 performances, winning the first Tony Award for choreography, and the show has enjoyed repeated revivals. NYU Steinhardt music faculty member Meg Bussert, who received a Tony nomination for her performance as Fiona in the 1980 Broadway revival, will appear alongside the student performers as the village's mystic elder, Lundie.

NYU's production of Brigadoon runs September 21-25 at 8 p.m. and September 24 at 3 p.m. at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, 35 West 4th Street. Brigadoon features music direction by Stan Tucker, scenic design by Edward T. Morris, lighting design by Jimmy Lawlor, costume design by Rose Bisogno, sound design by Benjamin Furiga, and props by Anne Sherer. The production stage manager is Elizabeth Haroian. In addition to Meg Bussert, the cast features NYU Steinhardt students Madeline Bernstein, Anika Braganza, Andrea Bush, James Buhse, Tony Carrubba, Michelle Cosentino, Elle Fellerhoff, Jessica Freedman, Jake Friedman, Fabian-Joubert Gallmeister, Kelsie Hicks, Stevie LeWarne, Madeline Lukomski, Taggart Price, Christian Roach, James Rose, Christopher Sapp, Chad Schultze, Alisha Sheth, Jordan Stam, Maksim Tokarev, Michelle Tsai, Jordan Underwood, and Joseph Valle-Hoag.

Steinhardt's Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, established in 1925, instructs over 1,600 students majoring in music and performing arts programs. Music and Performing Arts Professions serves as NYU's "school" of music and is a major research and practice center in music technology, music business, music composition, film scoring, songwriting, music performance practices, performing arts therapies, and the performing arts-in-education (music, dance, and drama).
