"Percussion People," a monthly family music series beginning it's second year, will feature the NYPD Drumline this Sunday, September 30 at 11AM at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street.
The interactive family event features the musical group, "Percussion People" (Michael Sgouros, Jack Mansager and Jennifer Caputo) with ten year old percussionist Emily Sgouros and the New York City Police Dept. Drumline as special guests. Sgouros, who studies percussion with Jeff Kraus at Manhattan School of Music Precollege, attends Long Beach Catholic Regional School. The acclaimed NYPD Drumline has appeared all over the city including at the Modern Drummer Music Festival. "Percussion People" will also appear at The Players theatre on Sunday, November 4 and Sunday, December 2 with additional dates to be announced in 2008.
"Percussion People" explores the history and tradition of percussion instruments from the smallest triangle to the largest bass drum; from the hand drums of Italy to the djembe drums of Africa; from the marimba of South America to the xylophone of the United States.
"Percussion People" invites the audience to explore a variety of percussion instruments in this interactive concert. Audience members of all ages are encouraged to arrive at 10:30 AM to build their own free percussion instruments which they can play during the concert.
