NYFOS Announces Reissuing Of Several Acclaimed CDs From Koch Entertainment

New York Festival Of Song (NYFOS), called by the New York Times "A national treasure when it comes to the art of song," announces the reissuing of several of its acclaimed CD'S on the Koch Entertainment label, including:

1) the Grammy Award-winning Arias and Barcarolles (2003), Leonard Bernstein's last work, world-premiered by NYFOS and sung by soprano Judy Kaye and baritone William Sharp, -- also songs from On the Town, Wonderful Town, Songfest and Peter Pan, all with pianists Steven Blier and Michael Barrett. "I wouldn't want to be without this disc (American Record Guide)" "Four accomplished performers - an excellent disc (Gramophone)"; "I can't imagine that anyone would feel anything missing in this fine performance (Stereo Review)."

2) Judy Kaye and William Sharp with Steven Blier in He Loves and She Loves (Gershwin songs, 1992) in "the most dazzling Gershwin playing on record. The singers, too, encompass the dash and whimsy that were Gershwin hallmarks (New York Times)"

3) Zipperfly and Other Songs (1991) by Marc Blitzstein, with Karen Holvik, soprano, William Sharp and Steven Blier, in "A flawless performance (New York Times)"; "I can't remember when I've relished a recording so much (American Record Guide)."

Other reissued NYFOS recordings on Koch Entertainment include: Robert Schumann, Kerner Lieder, Mignon Lieder, Duets, with the late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson; and An Unquiet Peace, The Lied Between the Wars, with soprano Cyndia Sieden, William Sharp and Steven Blier.

NYFOS' 2007 Bridge label recording of Spanish Love Songs, featuring Lorraine Hunt Lieberson and Metropolitan Opera tenor Joseph Kaiser, was named "One of the Best of the Year" by Opera News. Upcoming is the Bridge recording of NYFOS' World Premiere performance of Bastianello and Lucrezia, the critically acclaimed one-act comic operas by John Musto and William Bolcom, with libretti by Marc Campbell, commissioned and performed by NYFOS in April 2008.

New York Festival Of Song's Spring 2009 performances include the April 14 Gala CARRIED AWAY (with the lyrics of Comden and Green), featuring Tyne Daly, Walter Bobbie, Darius de Haas, Amanda Green, Steven Blier and Michael Barrett at Weill Recital Hall; and the May 19 and 21 The Welcome Shore, at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center, a hymn to rivers and oceans, featuring soprano Michelle Areyzaga, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, baritone Philip Cutlip, Steven Blier and Michael Barrett.

New York Festival Of Song, founded in 1988 by Michael Barrett and Steven Blier. includes a far-ranging repertoire of art songs, concert works and theater pieces.
