NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP joined Council Member Vanessa Gibson, Director of Planning and Development for Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. Wilhelm Ronda, Bronx Community Board 5 District Manager Xavier Rodriguez, Community Board 4 District Manager Jose Rodriguez, Park Manager of Roberto Clemente State Park Frances Rodriguez, and Harlem River Working Group's Chauncy Young today to cut the ribbon on renovations to Bridge Park.

"Thanks to this project, Bridge Park will now serve as the 'gateway to the greenway' and will provide this community with another way to get fit and stay healthy, or simply take in the beautiful views," said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP.

"Greenspace is immeasurably important to the health of our community and I am so pleased that the greenway path along the Harlem River will soon be a reality," said Council Member Vanessa Gibson. "Today's ribbon cutting at Bridge Park was a culmination of the tireless work of numerous community stakeholders, all who are dedicated to bringing the people of the South Bronx beautiful outdoor space of their very own. Community development projects such as this are a critical part of the better, brighter Bronx we all wish to see. I thank our Mayor Bill de Blasio, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., Parks Commissioner Mitchell Silver for their leadership and investment in the Bronx's future as well as the Bronx Parks staff Community Boards 4 and 5, and the residents of Highbridge and the Harlem Working Group for their partnership on this journey."

This project provided wider access to the waterfront for the surrounding community with a multi-user greenway path along the Harlem River. Renovations include new seating, a bicycle rack, drinking fountains and landscaping. New trees and shrubs have also been planted between the park and the Metro North Railroad.

Funding for this $4 million project was generously allocated by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., City Council Member Vanessa Gibson, the Mayor's Office and a Federal grant.
