The New York City Ballet has announced its 2010-2011 season, the New York Times announced.  The season will include some works new to the company, such as a new ballet by acclaimed theater choreographer Susan Stroman (CONTACT, THE PRODUCERS) and a production of Kurt Weill's THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS starring Patti LuPone.  It will also include some old favorites such as THE NUTCRACKER, choreographed by George Balanchine, and SWAN LAKE.

Stroman's new ballet, which is as yet untitled, will premiere on January 28, 2011 as part of a New Combinations Evening and will continue to be performed throughout the spring.  On May 25, 28, 29, and 30, 2011, it will be performed as part of a Broadway Tribute, which will also feature SLAUGHTER ON TENTH AVENUE, composed by Richard Rodgers and choreographed by Balanchine, and the WEST SIDE STORY SUITE, composed by Leonard Bernstein and choreographed by Jerome Robbins.

The production of THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS will have its world premiere at a Spring Gala on May 11, 2011 and will continue to be performed throughout the month.  This opera ballet, with music by Weill and libretto by Bertolt Brecht, originally featured Lotte Lenya and Tilly Losch.  This production will star the Tony Award®-winning Broadway actress Patti LuPone, who most recently appeared on Broadway as Rose in GYPSY.

Other highlights of the season will include George Balanchine's JEWELS and various evenings with themed collections of dances, including ALL AMERICAN, ALL BALANCHINE, and ALL ROBBINS.  To see full listings for the season, visit www.nycballet.com.

The New York City Ballet, one of the foremost dance companies in the world, is unique in US artistic history. Solely responsible for training its own artists and creating its own works, the New York City Ballet was the first ballet institution in the world with two permanent homes, the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, New York. The New York City Ballet offers a rich company history and repertoire of ballets, as well as world-class dancers.

George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein formed New York City Ballet with the goal of producing and performing a new ballet repertory that would reimagine the principles of classical dance. Under the leadership of Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins, the Company remains dedicated to their vision as it pursues two primary objectives: to preserve the ballets, dance aesthetic, and standards of excellence created and established by its founders; and to develop new work that draws on the creative talents of contemporary choreographers and composers, and speaks to the time in which it is made. This mission is accompanied by a commitment to expand the Company's audience and make ballet accessible to the widest possible public through touring, education programs, the creative use of media, and other outreach efforts.
