Auditions for Camp Broadway will be held at Theatreworks/Chelsea Studios (151 W. 26th St., between 6th and 7th Ave.) on July 16th and August 6th at 10 AM, as well as in 12 cities nationwide. The award-winning theater arts education company is seeking 400 performance-loving kids, ages 9-13, to participate in a one-week program in New York City and to perform live in the 79th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Camp Broadway has been selected to perform the parade's opening number, "We Give Thanks Today," written by Broadway composer Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), which celebrates kids across America waking up on Thanksgiving morning to the fantasy world of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Camp Broadway has created a special one-week program leading up to the parade performance, including a series of Broadway workshops, classes and rehearsals to prepare the kids for the nationally televised performance.

"For the past decade," describes a press article, "Camp Broadway has offered theater-loving kids across America the opportunity to participate in exciting, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities in live theater. Working collaboratively with Broadway's most distinguished performers, writers and designers, Camp Broadway has hosted more than 65,000 students at pre-theater workshops and special events. The company has provided tens of thousands of children the opportunity to work side-by-side with Broadway professionals at year-round performing arts programs. Camp Broadway's participation in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is the highlight of a busy year."

The Camp Broadway We Give Thanks Today program will includes rehearsals and run-throughs, a Broadway dance workshop, a Herald Square camera blocking rehearsal, a costume fitting and make-up tips, a cast pizza party, a costume parade, a professionally-choreographed musical routine, a nationally-televised parade performance, a commemorative CD recording of the original Lippa song, a commemorative T-shirt and Macy's Parade pin, and snacks and drinks.

Camp Broadway auditions will also be held in Tempe, AZ (June 18); Fort Lauderdale, FL (June 26); Tampa, FL (June 27); San Francisco, CA (July 6); New York, NY (July 16 and August 6); Atlanta, GA (July 17); Detroit, MI (July 23); Buffalo, NY (July 24); Providence, RI (August 13); Dallas, TX (August 20); Saint Louis, MO (August 28); and Boston, MA (September 10).

Those auditioning should bring a completed application, wear dance shoes and comfortable clothes and be ready to dance. The children will learn a combination by a Broadway choreographer.

Camp Broadway, recipient of the 2002 Standing Ovation Award from the Educational Theatre Association, is a theater arts education and audience development company dedicated to helping educators, students and families to experience theater in creative and meaningful ways.
