NYC-ARTS, THIRTEEN's weekly arts and culture multi-platform showcase, brings arts lovers an all-access pass to the interesting, unusual and unique cultural offerings of the greater New York City region. New York's five boroughs and the surrounding region offer some of the most renowned cultural institutions in the world. This month the series will spotlight several of those destinations located in Brooklyn.
On January 4, the show features the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD), New York's first museum where visitors can actually taste the food featured in its exhibitions. Tucked between Greenpoint and Williamsburg, MOFAD aims to advance public understanding of the culture, history, science, production, and commerce of food and drink. Also on January 4, viewers learn about Jane's Carousel, an homage to the golden age of carousel-making, located in the neighborhood of DUMBO, on the waterfront near Brooklyn Bridge Park.
On January 11, NYC-ARTS visits the Brooklyn studio of modern-day violin maker Sam Zygmuntowicz to discover the unique skills and delicate process involved in creating an outstanding violin.
Later in the month, on January 18 the series travels to the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn to visit UrbanGlass, a center for experimental art-making which has been devoted to advancing glassmaking as a creative medium for over 40 years.
Co-hosted by New York Emmy Award winners Philippe de Montebello and Paula Zahn, with events around town reported by Ha, NYC-ARTS showcases both world-renowned and local, community-based arts organizations.
