Yesterday, New York Times Theatre Critic Ben Brantly released his recommended summer reading list of theater books for all of those eager to get their theatrical fill while the season enjoys its much deserved downtime after the Tony Awards on June 13.
Topping his list is Moss Hart's "Act One," which Brantly claims is "still probably the best account of falling in love with the stage from a distance and then consummating the relationship." Also recommended are "Ghost Light," "a poignant portrait of theater as a harbor for a scared and unhappy boy who grew up to become Frank Rich, the eloquent New York Times editorial columnist and former all-mighty drama critic."
For those wanting something not on the novel side, Brantly recommends picking up copies of letters by John Gielgud and Noel Coward.
