Anne Runofsson, Christine Pedi, Robert Klein and Lucie Arnaz are among the stars who have been announced to take part in National Symphony Orchestra's Pops 2006-2007 season at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Marvin Hamlisch will continue to lead the famed orchestra.
Runolfsson, currently playing Carlotta in Broadway's
The Phantom of the Opera, will join baritone Doug LaBrecque for
Marvin's Monster Mash, an evening in which audiences may "dress in (their)
spookiest costume for this 'spirited' evening of spine-tingling hits" from October 26th through 28th.
Strike Up the Band: A Gershwin Brothers Celebration will be presented on November 24th at 7 PM in the Concert Hall; selections from "Rhapsody in Blue," "An American in Paris," and
Porgy and Bess will be among the highlights.
From December 7th through 10th,
Happy Holidays will deck the Concert Hall. Under the musical direction of Donald McCullough, the Master Chorale of Washington will perform yuletide favorites.
What's Up, Doc? An Evening with Doc Severinsen, held from January 25th through 17th, 2007, in the Concert Hall, will feature Severinsen (who was the musical director for Johnny Carson) as its guest conductor. The pops will perform a grabbag of selections, including pieces by Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
Christine Pedi (
Forbidden Broadway) and Cara Johnston will be two of the
Broadway Divas, with three more to be announced later. With Jack Everly as guest conductor, the concerts will be held from April 12th through 14th and feature songs from musicals such as
Funny Girl, Les Miserables and
Chicago. Lucie Arnaz & Robert Klein: They're Playing Our Song – Again! will offer a reunion concert of the 1979 musical that featured a book by
Neil Simon, lyrics by
Carole Bayer Sager and music by Hamlisch, who will return as conductor. The concert will be held from May 31st through June 2nd.
