The Chinese Language Center (CLC) at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, had opened a course for international students to appreciate the art of Chinese painting and learn how to pick up the skills of Chinese painting.

Professor Rong-Fu Wu, concurrently CLC director invited Prof. Shen-Xi Chang, a well-known painter, to demonstrate and teach the international students the art of Chinese painting.

Jonas Andrew Batcheller, an American student from Binghamton University, who came to Taiwan for first time and was interested in the culture classes he took in CLC said, "The teacher is very nice and very informative. It's a very great experience that I can learn how to paint."

One of the Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) members currently visiting NCKU, Batcheller proudly displayed his art work and said, "I'll show my friends my paintings when I'm back home."

"I'm pretty proud of the flowers that I paint," said Allison Gray, another TUSA students from University of Maryland, who is content with what she has learned in the Chinese painting for the last four weeks, "and I can write my Chinese name which is very cool."

Ana Cavsey, an American student who has learned Chinese in NCKU for almost seven months and plans to stay longer. "I like Chinese painting because it's no stress."

She said, "I think Chinese painting is harder than I expected. Since I don't have any experiences with painting, it's nice to learn how to do Chinese painting."

Cavsey with a background in architecture design said, "I think bridges, rocks and mountains are easier than small objects like fruits and flowers."
