NBC to Air 2013's THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE! Next Weekend

With PETER PAN wrapped, NBC is bringing back THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

Executive producer Neil Meron took to Twitter today to confirm that the network will be airing 2013's THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIVE!, starring Carrie Underwood, just in time for the holidays. The special musical event will be broadcast next Saturday, Dec. 20 at 8PM EST.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC starred six-time Grammy Award winner Underwood stars as Maria with TRUE BLOOD star Stephen Moyer as Capt. Georg von Trapp plus 5-time Tony-Award winner Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess and you have a new version of this beloved Broadway musical classic.

Also co-starring are Tony Award winners Laura Benanti (Elsa Schrader) and Christian Borle (Max Dettweiler). The young cast set to play the von Trapp children are Ariane Rinehart (Liesl), Michael Nigro(Fredrich), Ella Watts-Gorman(Louisa), Joe West (Kurt), Sophia Anne Caruso (Brigitta), Grace Rundhaug (Marta) and Peyton Ella as young Gretl.

The live holiday spectacular is based on the original 1959 Broadway production of "The Sound of Music," starringMary Martin and Theodore Bikel, with a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The iconic story centers on a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the seven children of a naval officer widower.

"The Sound of Music Live!" is executive produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford serve as co-directors. "The Sound of Music Live!" is produced by Universal Television.

With "Sunday Night Football," two editions of "The Voice" and "Peter Pan Live!" accounting for four of the week's top seven primetime programs on the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, NBC won the ratings week of Dec. 1-7 in 18-49 and total viewers, marking the network's ninth weeklong win in 11 weeks so far this fall in 18-49 and third victory in total viewers.
