NBC Puts the Brakes on Adam Levine's Musical Drama Series THE 1970's

Deadline reports that NBC has pulled the plug on Adam Levine's period musical limited drama series THE 1970's, from the 'Voice' coach and Boardwalk Entertainment Group's writer-director Timothy Scott Bogart, music publisher Evan "Kidd" Bogart and TV producer Gary A. Randall.

The network bought the project last year and gave a pilot presentation order last month, bringing on a casting director and putting offers out to such actors as Hayden Christensen and Kelsey Grammer. The site reports exclusively that while the size of the order was uncertain, ultimately, the project might have turned out to be too expensive for the Peacock network.

THE 1970's was to feature classic songs of the period performed by contemporary artists, and was to tell "the real story of the wars among the powerful independent music companies who were fending off the big corporations from encroaching on their turf, with the mob on their side and the FBI on the side of the congloms."

In positive news, producers may still shop it elsewhere, and NBC is open to ideas for a different music project.
