The Rise Of Dorothy Hale, a new play by Myra Bairstow premieres off-Broadway at St. Luke's Theater on September 19, opening October 4.
The open-ended run, directed by Penny Templeton, features Michael Badalucco, Sarita Choudhury, Greg Hansen, Laura Koffman, Mark LaMura and Sarah Wynter.
"History has recorded that Dorothy Hale, the widow of American muralist Gardner Hale, died in New York City on October 21, 1938 after plunging sixteen stories from her apartment window at the Hampshire House on Central Park South. She was thirty-three years old. Dorothy's death was ruled a suicide…" describe press notes, "The story of Dorothy Hale has never really been thoroughly examined. Until now. The Rise Of Dorothy Hale explores the life and death of Dorothy Hale through the creative process of Frida Kahlo and enables the contradictions in history to stand face to face. Did the alleged suicide note that Clare Boothe Luce claims to have received even exist? Was Dorothy Hale's death a suicide or a murder made to look like a suicide?"
The Rise Of Dorothy Hale will set design by Josh Iacovelli and lighting design by Graham Kindred.
Performances will be Monday, Wednesday through Saturday at 8 PM, with matinees Wednesday at 2PM and Saturday & Sunday at 3 PM at St Luke's Theatre (308 West 46th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues).
