A Chorus Line is proud to announce the launch of "My Life On The Line," a new blog on the A Chorus Line website (www.achorusline.com). "My Life On The Line" was inspired by the life experiences shared by students participating in Theatre Development Fund's (TDF) Open Doors program after they had seen the show. These New York City high school students tell their stories of how they have put themselves "on the line," much like the characters in the smash hit musical who put themselves "on the line" by telling their personal struggles during a Broadway audition.
"During a recent TDF Open Doors post-show discussion at A Chorus Line, students related so strongly to the show that they began to tell the performers (who were present at the discussion) about their struggles to realize their dreams. Now, with 'My Life On The Line' live on the A Chorus Line website, everyone is invited to share their stories by posting their own 'My Life On The Line' video or essay," state press notes. You can access 'My Life On The Line' from the A Chorus Line homepage at: www.achorusline.com or directly at: www.mylifeontheline.org.
A Chorus Line returned to Broadway opening Thursday, October 5, 2006, at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th St). A Chorus Line is directed by its original Tony Award winning co-choreographer Bob Avian, conceived and originally choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett, with a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban, with the original choreography re-staged by Baayork Lee.
TDF's Open Doors, which begins its 10th year this fall, has operated on the belief of its co-founder, playwright Wendy Wasserstein, that "theatergoing is the birthright of every New Yorker." In TDF's Open Doors, dedicated theatre and dance professionals each mentor eight underserved New York City high school students and bring their groups to six Broadway and/or Off Broadway performances over the course of a school year. These talented mentors understand the importance of live performance in the cultural education of today's youth and engage their groups in lively, in-depth post-performance discussions. Through this personal and dynamic interaction, the students develop a deep appreciation of theatre and an understanding of its relevance in their lives.
A Chorus Line remains the longest running American musical in Broadway history.
